DEVOTIONALS FOR THE SOUL

Lamentations Chapter 3 New King James Verison (NKJV)

Hope and Relief While Waiting on The Goodness of the Lord

Through the Lord’s mercies we are not consumed, because His compassions fail not.
They are new every morning; "Great is Your faithfulness. The Lord is my portion,” says my soul, “Therefore I hope in Him!”

The Lord is good to those who wait for Him, to the soul who seeks Him.
It is good that one should hope and wait quietly for the salvation of the Lord.

Psalm 119 New King James Verison (NKJV)

The Lord's Judgments Are Righteous

Blessed are the undefiled in the way, who walk in the law of the Lord!
Blessed are those who keep His testimonies, who seek Him with the whole heart! They also do no iniquity; They walk in His ways.
You have commanded us to keep Your precepts diligently. Oh, that my ways were directed to keep Your statutes! Then I would not be ashamed, when I look into all Your commandments. I will praise You with uprightness of heart, when I learn Your righteous judgments. I will keep Your statutes; Oh, do not forsake me utterly!

Psalm 23 New King James Version (NKJV)

The Lord is the Chief Shepherd of His People

The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. He makes me to lie down in green pastures; He leads me beside the still waters. He restores my soul; He leads me in the paths of righteousness
For His name’s sake.

Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil; For You are with me; Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me . You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; You anoint my head with oil; My cup runs over.
Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me, all the days of my life;
And I will dwell in the house of the Lord, forever. Amen.

Psalm 39 New King James Version (NKJV)

Prayer for Wisdom, Forgiveness and Self-Understanding

I said, “I will guard my ways, lest I sin with my tongue; I will restrain my mouth with a muzzle, while the wicked are before me.” I was mute with silence, I held my peace even from good; And my sorrow was stirred up.
My heart was hot within me while I was musing, the fire burned. Then I spoke with my tongue: “Lord, make me to know my end, and what is the measure of my days, so that I may know how frail I am. Indeed, You have made my days as handbreadths, and my age is as nothing before You; Certainly every man at his best state is but vapor. Selah...
Surely every man walks about like a shadow; Surely they busy themselves in vain; He heaps up riches, and does not know who will gather them. And now, Lord, what do I wait for? My hope is in You. Deliver me from all my transgressions; Do not make me the reproach of the foolish. I was mute, I did not open my mouth, because it was You who did it. Remove Your plague from me; I am consumed by the blow of Your hand. When with rebukes You correct man for iniquity, You make his beauty melt away like a moth; Surely every man is vapor. Selah...

Hear my prayer, O Lord, and give ear to my cry; Do not be silent at my tears; for I am a stranger with You, a sojourner, as all my fathers were. Remove Your gaze from me, that I may regain strength, before I go away and am no more.” Amen.

Psalm 49 New King James Version (NKJV)

Trust in God, Not Wealth... The Confidence of the Foolish

Hear this, all peoples; Give ear, all inhabitants of the world, both low and high, rich and poor together.
My mouth shall speak wisdom, and the meditation of my heart  shall give understanding. I will incline my ear to a proverb; I will disclose my dark saying on the harp. Why should I fear in the days of evil, when the iniquity at my heels surrounds me? Those who trust in their wealth and boast in the multitude of their riches,
none of them can by any means redeem his brother, nor give to God a ransom for him— For the redemption of their souls is costly,
and it shall cease forever—  so that he should continue to live eternally, and not see the Pit.

For he sees wise men die; Likewise the fool and the senseless person perish, and leave their wealth to others. Their inner thought is that their houses will last forever,  their dwelling places to all generations; they call their lands after their own names.
Nevertheless man, though in honor, does not remain he is like the beasts that perish. This is the way of those who are foolish, and of their posterity who approve their sayings. Selah
Like sheep they are laid in the grave; death shall feed on them; the upright shall have dominion over them in the morning; and their beauty shall be consumed in the grave, far from their dwelling.
But God will redeem my soul from the power of the grave, for He shall receive me. Selah

Do not be afraid when one becomes rich, when the glory of his house is increased; for when he dies he shall carry nothing away;
His glory shall not descend after him . Though while he lives he blesses himself for men will praise you when you do well for yourself), he shall go to the generation of his fathers; they shall never see light.
A man who is in honor, yet does not understand, is like the beasts that perish.
